The everis Foundation has signed an agreement with the Alicante City Council to encourage scientific and technological vocations (STEM vocations: Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) among the children of the city. This agreement has been signed in an event held last Friday 3 May at the City Hall where the Alicante Mayor, Luis Barcala, and the Vice President of the everis Foundation, Félix Bonmatí, were present.

Thanks to this agreement, volunteers of the everis Foundation will conduct different programming and robotics workshops for children between the ages of 7 and 14 from different schools in the city. The aim of the program is to bring technology to children in a fun and simple way so they can get familiar with the concepts of programming and innovation in a natural way.

The workshops will be conducted with Scratch, an intuitive tool that allows the user to create animated stories or videogames while acquiring the basics of computational thinking. The first of these courses (free of charge) has been set for Saturday 18 May, from 10 am to 2 pm, at the headquarters of our company, on the beach of San Juan (Avenida de Britania, 36-38).

Félix Bonmatí, Vice President of the everis Foundation, has explained that ‘in the Foundation we work to leave a footprint in all the regions where everis is present. Agreements such as the one we are signing today allow us to promote scientific-technological vocations among young people and provide them with a training base that will help them in their academic and professional future’.

This agreement is set within the project Alicante Futura, the strategic initiative of the council aimed at turning the city into the Mediterranean capital of technology industry, digital entrepreneurship and the new urban economy.

International commitment with STEM vocations

everis Foundation has been working to promote STEM vocations since 2015. This commitment has evolved year after year and has moved from the local level to the international level. The workshops in programming and robotics are currently developed in more than 19 branches at global level. Our aim is to continue growing in the different countries where the everis Group is present.

Since the launch of the programme, more than 1,600 children have participated. Their training has been possible thanks to the voluntary work of more than 700 everis professionals from Europe and Latin America.

In order to scale up this project and facilitate its expansion, everis Foundation is currently working on a free MOOC (Massive Online Open Courses), so that any person, institution, NGO or educational center in any country can conduct these workshops with children from their immediate environment.
